Harbour Air Seaplanes was founded in British Columbia (B.C.) in 1982 and today has more than 50 aircrafts, servicing 400,000 passengers throughout coastal B C. The Harbour Air Group, consisting of Harbour Air Seaplanes, Whistler Air, Saltspring Air, Tantalus Air and Aeroflite International Services is the largest seaplane company in North America. The airline features scheduled service flights, tours, and charters, with bases in downtown Vancouver, Richmond, Victoria, Nanaimo, Whistler, Pitt Meadows, Comox, Sechelt, and Salt Spring Island.
Harbour Air’s challenge was two-fold. First, there was a pressing need to design an effective passenger communication system at the Victoria terminal. Later, the company wanted to streamline their employee communications efforts. In both situations, Harbour Air was looking for an easy-to-use solution with the ability to centrally manage all of their content and provide real-time updates via digital displays.
For the first project, eight display screens with Skykit media players connected to Skykit Beam were deployed throughout Harbour Air’s Victoria Terminal and Vancouver Base. Content displayed on the screens direct passengers to the appropriate check-in counters.
After using Skykit to communicate with passengers in the terminals for a number of years, Harbour Air began to evaluate the Skykit solution for employee communications. The company’s workforce number varies from 200-500 depending upon the season and the HR department found it challenging to stay connected with and keep relevant information in front of the team. While the HR team was previously using digital signage to communicate with employees, they found their existing solution to be difficult to manage.
Ultimately Harbour Air streamlined their digital signage solution with Skykit. The Harbour Air team was familiar with Skykit from the first deployment and knew that they could easily scale and add screens to their existing solution. The easy-to-use, cloud-based content management system now helps the HR teams communicate important employee messages throughout staff rooms, office spaces, maintenance facilities and hangars. Content includes corporate communications, employee engagement messaging, and safety and training information.
