Skykit Employee Spotlight Kou Lor Senior Software Engineer at Skykit Headshot Image and Graphic

Skykit Software Engineer Kou Lor is this week’s employee spotlight. Kou shares his thoughts on technology, his proudest Skykit accomplishment, and his most recent creative use for a Raspberry Pi.

What is your role at Skykit? What do you do in your role?

I am a Senior Software Engineer at Skykit. I am responsible for developing software solutions, troubleshooting, building new applications, and supporting current Skykit applications such as Beam and Turf.

What excites you most about what you are doing at Skykit?

Having the opportunity to solve a variety of challenging problems using the latest technology to build solutions to help businesses grow in the digital signage industry. I am always learning and finding ways to be more effective with my work to help our team continue to provide the best user experience to our customers.

What about technology do you love?

Technology is constantly changing and evolving its patterns and practices. It requires me to continually learn and adapt. Working in technology allows me to create, deliver results, and solve problems, which is both challenging and rewarding.

What are you most looking forward to in 2022?

I am looking forward to more in-person networking events and learning Python.

What is your favorite coding language?

My favorite coding language is JavaScript. There’s a lot you can do with it. You can create cool animations, build games and applications, or even set up your own backend server using NodeJS. The JavaScript ecosystem is rapidly evolving, so the possibilities of what you can build are endless.

What kinds of projects do you like to work on while not at work?

I’m currently working on using a Raspberry Pi as a web development server to host an app that I made for my kids. The app basically gamifies the household chores they do by assigning points and tracks their progress.

Proudest accomplishment?

One of my accomplishments while working at Skykit is collaborating with the Front End team on taking on a challenging task to convert an AngularJS over to VueJS. We were able to deliver an improved solution in a short period of time for Skykit Beam that would enable us to deliver future enhancements more rapidly.

Favorite book/podcast or TV show you’ve read/listened to/watched during the last 2 years?

I’d say my favorite podcast is, “The Sweaty Startup.” It’s about a successful entrepreneur who shares principles, strategies, and methods used to grow successful companies.

Strangest/favorite place you’ve been? Why?

I don’t have a favorite place in mind, but one place I would go back to is Breckenridge, Colorado. The mountain scenery is breathtaking and I enjoyed being in nature.

Skykit is always looking for new team members to join our amazing team! Check out our openings and reach out if you are interested in learning more.
